Traffic and Transportation Plan finalised as demand for Irish Open tickets hits record levels
The European Tour has today announced it is taking the unprecedented step of advising all fans planning to attend the 2012 Irish Open to purchase their tickets in advance to avoid the potential disappointment of missing out on the action at Royal Portrush Golf Club next month.
At a media briefing in the Northern Ireland Tourist Board headquarters in Belfast, the Tour, as event organisers, also unveiled detailed Traffic and Transportation plans including additional Translink coach, rail and Park & Ride services. These are designed to ensure not only that spectators have ease of access to the event, but to minimise the disruption to the neighbouring community on the roads surrounding Portrush. The Irish Open will boast three of the four current Major Champions after Keegan Bradley, the reigning US PGA Championship winner and one of a new breed of American stars, confirmed he will be heading for Royal Portrush Golf Club.
The 25 year old has never played a professional tournament in Europe, but has been lured by the magnificent links of Royal Portrush, where he will compete among a stellar field which also includes current US Open Champion Rory McIlroy and reigning Open Champion Darren Clarke. Crowds in excess of 100,000 will be racing to the north coast this month to watch more than 100 motor bike riders from 18 countries around the world compete in Ireland’s largest outdoor sporting event, the North West 200.
The annual event runs between the towns of Portrush, Portstewart and Coleraine from May 13 – 19 and boasts a packed programme of road racing action including the traditional Saturday Race Day classes and the exciting addition of Thursday evening racing on the May 17.
